OF Bell supports our client’s smart technologies production through the reliable supply of hardwearing moulded plastic components that help people to protect what’s important to them from wherever they are.
Benefiting from a strong, trusted working relationship established over a number of years, our client approached OF Bell to manage the manufacture of moulded plastic components forming part of a new assembly for use in window and door sensor technologies.
Allowing home and business owners and operators to monitor their premises remotely, sensors placed in window and door frames will alert users via app to interference or intruders. Our injection moulding specialists worked with the client to identify the needs of components, which are to be used as sensor brackets, including structure, rigidity and environmental challenges, advising as to appropriate plastic compounds and tooling design to maximise performance and production potential.
Protection of our client’s product design and commercial interests is essential to maximise the potential of its new technology. OF Bell’s in-house tooling workshop team designed tools from scratch in collaboration with our client, supporting the cost-effective and confidential production of essential components under one roof.
Backed by our expert engineering team, tooling was tested and the product prototyped in order to fine-tune production prior to scaled manufacture. The bespoke tool produces multiple components per shot, maximising value and output from every cycle.
Our client’s sensor bracket moulded plastic component is manufactured using a UV-stabilised ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic compound. In situ, brackets will be positioned in window and door frames where they will be exposed to UV from sunlight. In order to prevent degradation, OF Bell specified a compound with UV resistance to give each component greater durability in any weather conditions.

Components are injection moulded on our dedicated machines, specifically matched to the miniature shot weight thereby eliminating degradation of the moulding polymer. Quality-assuring component output throughout, OF Bell produces 180,000 units per year, which are dispatched to our client’s UK facilities for integration into its technology production line before being shipped for use worldwide.
