Applied in non-invasive, intelligent inline inspection pigging tools by oil and gas sector innovator clients worldwide, caliper sensors manufactured by OF Bell monitor and protect pipelines that secure the extraction and supply of essential utilities around the clock.
Offering valuable cost savings through metal replacement manufacturing, caliper sensors are produced to entirely bespoke specifications by our specialist complex component engineering team under one roof at our facility in Bishop Auckland, prioritising and preserving our clients’ commercial interests and unique product designs.
Caliper sensors manufactured by OF Bell for integration into non-invasive, intelligent inline inspection technologies measure the deflection of each “arm” within smart pigging tools as the pig passes through a pipeline, identifying and monitoring measure corrosion, geometry, wall thickness, defects and anomalies to prevent leaks and wastage of valuable product and to minimise risk in client operations.
OF Bell’s innovative caliper sensor manufacture replaces increasingly-costly machined aluminium sensor housing with robust, hardwearing and lightweight moulded plastic components that offer significant cost savings and speedier production that reduces lead times.
OF Bell is a moulded plastics and complex miniature component specialist, advising clients during product development on effective metal replacement techniques that will lower costs and lead times of caliper sensor manufacture without compromise on the performance of pigging tools in the most demanding of operational environments.
By partnering with our clients, and with exceptional insight into intelligent pigging processes and technologies, OF Bell advises on, and prototypes, suitable metal replacement plastics compounds according to bespoke smart pigging tool designs, engineering cost-effective yet durable caliper sensor units to meet the unique needs of each tool, application and client organisation.
OF Bell’s experience in resins and potting ensures every moulded plastic caliper sensor component operates accurately and consistently in the field. Caliper sensor housings are precision-moulded in-house by plastics specialists, using tooling that’s designed, tested and engineered by our dedicated tooling workshop for complete confidentiality that protects our clients’ intellectual property interests.
During product development, and in partnership with client teams, OF Bell prototypes tooling and caliper sensor components through 3D printing, enabling our team to respond quickly to design changes that improve accuracy and consistency. As production is scaled up, high-performance injection moulding with 24/7 manufacturing capacity keeps supply chains moving.
Caliper sensors are assembled by OF Bell’s experienced in-house electronics specialists, potting caliper sensor components and cabling to customer specification using our precision injection moulding equipment. Components are monitored and quality-tested throughout manufacture and assembly to ensure an effective seal in every mould that will perform in the toughest conditions.
Bespoke testing processes for caliper sensors are agreed with clients at the outset of every project, replicating conditions in the field before dispatching units with test data for transparency and reassurance. OF Bell dispatches caliper sensor components throughout the UK and worldwide, reducing lead times, shipping and storage costs to keep supply chains stocked and production lines moving.
